PSG Defeats Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Secure French Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now secured the season-opening cup on fourteen separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown between the Ligue 1 champions and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side fired twice in the closing moments to take a surprise advantage. Initially, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital equaliser in the dying seconds to force the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping crucial kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for PSG to complete a convincing shootout win.

The record champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the last thirteen seasons.
